Events was introduced to Franchise Hockey as an expansion to the living content that we've been successful with. Events are limited time themed contests in which users build a unique roster with unique restrictions to defeat predefined opponents that revolve around the event theme. Each win unlocks a reward for the user, more valuable the harder the opponent is.
This feature was designed to enhance our limited time content, providing the user a reason to check in and keep updated with the happenings within the game. We display the user upcoming events and the potential rewards in hopes of drawing out anticipation.
We wanted to improve the collecting meta that works behind the sports manager game as well. Events can provide highly sought after and valuable players to end-game sets, creating a divergent strategy in the collecting meta and hopefully a compelling choice in resource use.
Feedback also led us to conclude that users were so focused on their primary roster that collections were going largely ignored once the user felt that their roster was sufficient for their level. To give users' collections more agency and use, this feature allows users to create alternate roster that focus on elements, such as a particular franchise, in the hopes that users will feel the need to maximize their collection more fully.
